ARCHITECTONIC LIVING
TYPE DESIGN
Architectonic is an experimental project with type and space. In the process of 3D design,
each letter begins with a building block with the same dimensions. The letter is then projected to its block’s front elevation
where extrusion takes place in 3rd dimension. A scheme of stratification is applied to the way each letter is extruded
to achieve an optical illusion. When one looks at the letter at an oblique angle, it is difficult to identify the alphabets.
Architectonic is at the boundary between type and building. Their difference purely depends on viewing angle.
Other than optical illusion, this new type also demonstrates many spatial conditions, such as high-rise towers,
cantilevered space, open plaza, long corridor, and etc.

Letter A and X are made into modeled to demonstrate this conditions.
Different patterns are used as a way to address model’s scale and possibly a solution for fenestration.
