Type, like many other designs in 21st century, has a new definition. It is not longer an encryption that carries a message,
but rather an opportunity for new spatial conditions. KOALA combines design disciplines of architecture, lighting and
graphics to transform a type from 2-dimensional surface to 3-dimensional space. A pixel in computer screen is translated
into 2inX2inX2in modules. Each module’s interior is coated with different colors. The main black and white alternation gives
the light wall a dynamic reading at different angle. When the backlight is turned on, a diffused warm color is projected
through the translucent plastic to the surrounding. KOALA is not only readable, but also functional.
